Finding the right Dietitian

This person specializes in gut issues, and weight loss but this one has 20 years experience in the industry while this person has been on all of these TV news shows talking to the general public.

Picking a dietitian is such a tough task. There is all this information out there on what is trending or what people claim is the “best way” to do something.

So why work with me versus all these other dietitians out there? Because I will respect you as an individual. I will see you as who you are where you need to start this nutrition journey versus where I think you need to start. I am not here to sell you anything fancy nor am I here to make you feel bad about the hot Cheetos you just had, cause honestly, same.

Things that are important to me when looking for a dietitian or a counselor, I ask myself, will this person understand my culture? Do they understand that the background of how I grew up affects the choices and thinking that I have today? Will they talk to me like a human and not just another client? Am I allowed to ask questions about why they recommend a certain care?

I’ve spoken with many parents that have been passed along from one healthcare provider to another just to be brought back to the same doctor. I have also heard many whose issues have been diminished and they don’t know where else to go.

Now I will be honest. When I get a client whose soul purpose is to lose weight, I like to explain that weight is a complex concept. Although my goals are usually always your goals, when it comes to weight if you leave and you are living a healthier lifestyle, are feeling more energetic, have better moods in the day, and are having a better relationship with your body overall then that is all I can ask for. If all you want is to lose weight and want to do it the fastest way possible then we may not be a good match.

I’ve met many dietitians that do not respect people in bigger bodies or give advice that fuels an eating disorder later in life. This is why it is okay to be picky with your dietitian. A lot of what we do on top of educating is counseling. If you didn’t like a restaurant, you wouldn’t just keep coming back and see if it got better, you would go somewhere else that is good. And finding a dietitian should be the same way.

I may not be the dietitian for everyone but I am here for those that: need a virtual-night session instead of during working hours, Spanish is their first language, have a really picky eater and you are sick of making multiple meals at once, don’t want to diet but want to know what it means to be healthy, are sick of being judged and misguided because of the size of your body, are ready to make sustainable changes to your diet.

Book a 15 minute discovery call to see if we are the right fit for each other. I am so excited to meet you.
